Prosciutto Wrapped Brussels Sprouts

People seem to have a negative outlook on Brussels sprouts which has tainted my perception of them, even though I had never tried them before the other day. Part of my 2012 resolutions is to take foods I don't particularly care for (or have not tried due to my own stubbornness) and cook them to my liking. I wouldn't say I'm a picky eater and I like to think I'm more adventurous than narrow-minded when it comes to food. So, what do I do when I want to make a not-so-tasty food delicious?

I add cheese and prosciutto (or bacon). No doubt.

Adapted from Ina Garten's recipe

{Serves 18}

Ingredients used {all Trader Joe's}: 1 bag of Brussel sprouts,1 pack of sliced prosciutto, Parmesan cheese (shaved/flakes), olive oil, balsamic vinaigrette, salt and pepper
  1. After roasting your Brussels sprouts according to this recipe (I tossed them in balsamic vinaigrette in addition to olive oil), let them cool for a few minutes
  2. Sandwich a pinch of Parmesan cheese between two of the halved Brussels sprouts
  3. Cut a prosciutto slice in half and place the now-whole-again Brussels sprout in one edge of the prosciutto
  4. Roll the Brussels sprout from one edge of the prosciutto to the other, making sure it's fully enclosed
  5. Place the little guy back in the baking pan; now repeat until all Brussel sprouts and/or prosciutto is used
  6. Place the baking dish back in the oven and cook for another 8 minutes or until the prosciutto is crispy
  7. Once they're done to your liking, take them out and let cool for a couple minutes
My boyfriend and roommate liked them. I hope you do too!
Enjoy!

Splurge or Steal?

To splurge or steal - that is the question! These new Givenchy heels are my latest shoe obsession! The block heel and pebbled leather are just too perfect to not have a home on my shoe shelves.The same goes for the Alexander Wang sandals with padded ankle cuffs that give it a moto-esque feeling. Unfortunately, the price on these two babies are just waayyy out of my budget (like most shoes I swoon over on a daily basis).

To satisfy my craving, I've found some heels with a similar style and feel that are much more budget friendly. The ASOS strappy sandal has the stacked block heel I adore with just a touch of color to make them interesting. They're incredibly work appropriate and would be great shoe addition for spring time. The best deal are these Zara sandals with simple ankle and toe straps (a whopping $49.00!). They're not over the top with details and textures, yet simple and sexy to pair with my ankle trousers for work or skinny jeans for a night out to dinner. They're just so versatile!

Would you splurge on the above shoes or go for the steal?

Bragging Rights

I just wanted to briefly share (and brag!) with you my two new faux fur coats from my wonderful mama! We finally had time to exchange some much anticipated gifts and she surprised me these two new beauties.

The white coat is Black Rivet via Wilson's Leather and the black coat is Michael Kors. Since I've moved to the Midwest my faux fur collection seems to keep growing and I hope it continues to do so. The Michael Kors coat is shaggy perfection, but I will still need to layer up underneath it since it's not too warm for our current weather. However, I wore the white little number out to dinner with my mom the night I got them and holy fur balls it is WARM! My top half was nice and toasty, but since it hits right at my hips my tush was a tad cold.

We still have several months of freezing weather left, which means they'll be getting lots of love! Don't be surprised if you see me petting myself while parading around Bripple!

THANKS MAMA!!!

Get Her Look: Ashley Olsen

The Olsen twins are my ultimate fashion icons. Period. I don't know if it's because I grew up watching them on Full House and The Adventures of Mary-Kate and Ashley (mind you, I'm the same age as them), but I have always been drawn to their personal style. They have mastered the relaxed, bohemian/rocker, chic look and continue to impress me with their evolving style and fabulous Balenciaga shoe collection. I'm pretty sure I'm not a star-struck-kinda-person, but I have a feeling if I met the Olsen twins a whole lot of nothing would be coming out of my mouth and tears would be in my eyes.

To help you achieve Ashley Olsen's put-together look, slide into some indigo jeans, relaxed button down shirt, and sky high strappy heels. Top it all off with a handful of cocktail rings and some bad ass sunglasses and you're good to go.

This street style picture of Ashley is from 2007 I believe. It's been saved in a folder on my desktop for so long and even though this look was from five + years ago, I happen to think this look never goes out of style.

Mint Madness

I'm loving all things mint right now. Currently I'm wearing this Essie nail polish and absolutely loving it! The mint loafers have been in my shopping cart for a few days now and if it wasn't snowing outside, I would have pulled the trigger by now. Maybe if we get a heat wave soon I'll take it as a sign that I am supposed to buy them.

Egg Cups

I have always been a huge fan of breakfast food and I'm definitely not one to shy away from a recipe that involves a muffin pan, so when I saw this recipe on Martha Stewart's website a while back I knew I had to try it. I've now taken her idea and adapted it even more to my liking by adding deli turkey, crumbled goat cheese, and seasoning like red pepper flakes! These little guys are so simple to make and are always a big hit when I bake them for the friends who stroll through on the weekends.

{For the cups I used 12 grain bread}

{Insert tablespoon of turkey and goat cheese into each cup and gently press it all down}

{Crack 1 egg with half the egg white into each cup. I broke the yolk in one
of the cups for a friend who hates runny eggs - crazy I know!}

{After 15 minutes in the oven --> the final product}

Feel free to play around with the recipe and make it your own! You'll most likely find that these little toast cups are the coolest thing ever and have endless possibilities. Enjoy!

Young Professional

Welp, for the first post on my blog I figured I would share my most recent Polyvore set. I work in an office setting, so I'm fortunate that I get to dress up everyday if I want to. I've heard people say they would rather wear sweat pants to work than have to try and walk in heels all day - I beg to differ. Nothing makes me happier than wearing pencil skirts in every color and print with some killer heels. This little set I put together has some fun details like leather lapels and contrast trim. I like to keep my jewelry simple most of the time since I'm typically typing on a keyboard all day, so this dainty 'hope' bracelet would be ideal and is super sweet. The heels are a nice addition of color to the outfit which definitely keeps it young and fresh looking.
